American Wave
Beachy, touchable waves that last for months — not your mother's perm.
The American Wave is a modern texture service developed by Arrojo in New York: loose, natural-looking waves with movement and shine, without the tight curl or dryness people associate with old-fashioned perms. Jeannie trained with Arrojo and specializes in it.

What the American Wave is
A gentle wave system that works with your hair's natural pattern to add body, bend and soft texture. Fine, flat hair gets volume that lasts; straight hair gets the "air-dried at the beach" look without a curling iron every morning. Results typically last three to five months and soften gradually rather than growing out with a line.
Who it's for
- Fine or straight hair that won't hold a style
- Anyone who wants to spend less time with hot tools
- Clients who want wave without frizz or a "poodle" curl
- Hair that's healthy or lightly colored (we'll assess anything more processed first)
Why Jeannie
The American Wave rewards experience — the wrap pattern, rod size and timing decide whether you get a soft bend or a real curl. Jeannie has offered it for years, and Melissa is certified in it as well, making this one of very few studios in Charleston and the Kanawha Valley where both stylists do the service. Clients travel from Huntington, Beckley and out of state for it.
Questions
How long does an American Wave take?
Plan on two to three hours. It's an unhurried service and we don't double-book it.
How long does it last?
Usually three to five months, softening gradually. Your hair's texture and how you care for it affect that.
Is it damaging?
It's gentler than traditional perms, but it is a chemical service. We assess your hair first — heavily lightened or compromised hair may need conditioning first or a different approach.
Can I color my hair and get an American Wave?
Often yes, but not on the same day. We'll sequence the two with time between.
